Hi.

I hope you like gin!

The struggle to find high quality soft drinks which aren’t full of sugar or simply tonic waters is ongoing.

We all know we shouldn’t drink alcohol every day, but when it gets to 7.00pm and you don’t want any more tea or coffee, what beverage do you reach for?

I am one of those people who happily drinks tonic water on its own and there are so many flavoured variants now sometimes you wouldn’t even be able to tell if there was gin in there or not. However, I’m pleased to say that Thomas and Evans No. 1 is a dedicated botanical soft drink, intended to be enjoyed on its own or mixed in a non-alcoholic cocktail.

It is not merely a carrier for alcohol.

Wisehead Productions is an innovative arm of Britvic plc. They took inspiration from the drink’s namesakes, Mr Thomas and Mr Evans who were business partners in the 1880s. As the temperance movement gained momentum, they made their wealth by creating non-alcoholic drinks to sell in the public houses, giving the public an alternative and a choice. Their obsession for quality is being continued in today’s beverage.

Thomas and Evans No. 1 is created by distilling 22 botanicals, including apple, elderflower and oak tincture. Green juices are filtered through silver birch charcoal before being added to the blend along with citrus peels.

Tasting Note
Aromas: A bright, prominent fresh herbal nose with a distinct bitterness underneath.

Palate: Complex lemon and lime characters on the palate with a richness in texture. Great depth with a touch of spiciness. Soft carbonation creates great weight and mouthfeel. Layered.

Conclusion
I am so pleased someone has created a "grown-up" soft drink which delivers a brilliant intensity of flavour in a complex, layered style.
