That Boutique-y Gin Co. Launch
Introducing the world’s first independent gin bottler. You may have already heard of their extremely successful and dynamically designed sister enterprise: That Boutique-y Whisky Co.
With gin taking the world by storm, That Boutique-y Gin Co. has been formed to provide limited edition released of exciting new products. These range between one-off twists on a producer’s recipe, secret push-the-boat-out experimentations and even brand new gins created specially.
Collaborating with some of the best distillers and gin industry figures, That Boutique-y Gin Co. is proud to launch its initial 11 products. Check out the labels on the full-size bottles – true to form, the designs are quirky, hand-illustrated depictions of the individual gins, their distillers and their stories all with a handful of humour thrown in. Huge credit goes to Grace J Ward for these designs.
The team very kindly sent me a tasting sample set, which is produced in partnership with Master of Malt and Drinks by the Dram. The set includes 10 of the 11 products, (the Navy Strength Palo Cortado Cask-Aged is proving fittingly elusive) an envelope with tasting cards and a lovely introductory letter detailing the launch of this venture.
It’s fascinating to see which distilleries are involved, what experiments have been undertaken and to know that everyone is eager to push the boundaries of our current gin renaissance. Exciting times.
Below you’ll find a short description of each gin and my own tasting notes. Suffice to say, regardless of how amazing each and every one tastes, my favourite has to be the Cherry Gin.
Cherry Gin - inspired by sloe gin
A rich, lifted almond nose with deep berry tones. Gently sticky sweet on the palate with dominant cherries and a touch of juniper underneath. Full vanilla balancing sweet and sour.
Cotswolds - double-barrel blend of first fill ex-Bourbon and red wine cask-aged gins
Deep earthy Bourbon notes – smoky vanilla and deep juniper with fresh coriander and menthol. Elegant red wine characteristics on the palate alongside a cola finish.
East London Liquor Company - with Douglas fir, lime, orange and exotic miyagawa
Bright rich nutty tones with citrus zest and full juniper. Gentle floral notes on the nose with a creamy palate and soft spiced orange peel finish.
Hernö - with fresh rose petals and spirit aged in juniper cask
Bright, elegant and smooth. Complex meadowsweet, elderberry and white chocolate notes. Deep juniper, fennel and lingonberries on the palate with a violet overtone.
The launch event was a huge success and a brilliant evening – a massive thank you to all the distillers who gave a talk through their collaborative products and to East London Liquor Company for hosting. Thank you also for the incredible goody bag we were given!
