Albourne Estate - Camping Amongst the Vines
It’s no secret that I love Albourne Estate’s English wines – they are delicious and if you haven’t tried them yet please do seek them out right now. Recently we’ve seen a flurry of English wine producers diversifying into other categories, including Albourne’s own release of 40 Vermouth, (which you can read about here). As our burgeoning English wine industry develops, producers are continuously delving into new avenues and collaborating with other industries. Albourne Estate have created the perfect excuse for visiting their vineyard: stay overnight amongst the vines!
Slightly Nomadic is a new camping business launched by Bridget Hamilton. She has teamed up with Alison Nightingale, (owner and winemaker of Albourne Estate) to pitch an idyllic campsite amongst the vines. Visitors can attend a vineyard tour, enjoy their wine on site and then spend an evening under the stars, gazing up through the rows of vines. It sounds heavenly!
Albourne Estate is the perfect partner for this venture as Alison has a strong focus on sustainability and environmental aspects – the winery is a converted grain store and cattle barn with a solar-panelled roof. Albourne Estate’s labels feature exquisite artwork by Louise Body, detailing some of the magnificent plants and wildlife you can find in the vineyard. As you enjoy your evening of camping, keep an eye out for buzzards, green woodpeckers and common blue butterflies.
Imagine dusk in the vineyard, sitting outside your tent with a glass of wine in hand
and seeing a barn owl swoop overhead…
Slightly Nomadic are providing you with a carefully curated package: this adult-only campsite hosts pre-pitched tents, (no fighting over who was responsible for the tent-pegs!) complete with blown-up mattresses and a gorgeous campfire with a supply of logs. You are welcome to bring your own tents and if you don’t want to join the vineyard tour, you can take advantage of numerous picturesque walks or meander up to the winery to buy a chilled bottle of wine.
Additionally, Slightly Nomadic give you the option of pre-ordering a meal. They’ll leave your delicious homemade soup or stew gently bubbling over the campfire, waiting for your arrival. Breakfast is delivered the next morning. Everything has been thought of in advance so all you need to do is relax and listen to the peaceful sound of birds singing and fish lazily jumping out of the lake.
If you need a break from reality and want to be blissfully surrounded by nature
- this is the campsite for you!
